Gallipoli feature documentary by Tolga Örnek

In April 2005, coinciding with the 95th ANZAC anniversary, Tolga Örnek released his feature length documentary titled simply ... Gallipoli.

The film features previously unreleased stills and footage from behind the lines on both sides of the conflict. Turkish and allied soldiers are cast in a uniquely human light, examining the universal tragedy of this ill-conceived World War I campaign.

Seven years in the making, this Turkish documentary premiered in Melbourne at a gala event sponsored by Fairy Chimneys Travel.

Through Gallipoli, Örnek observes the trench experience to be remarkably similar from all sides. Whether the consequence of poor orders, premature attacks or ill-planned strategy, personal suffering left the ANZAC, allied and Turkish warriors with only courage, tenacity ... and hope.
